The
Foundation's consulting and training services are built around its unique philosophy of "mentee-driven,
multiple mentoring," developed at the London School of Economics by the
Foundation's founder and president, Richard E. Caruso, Ph.D. That is, to be successful,
mentees needs to initiate and develop several productive mentoring relationships over
or even at the same time. Mentees learn the skills needed to turn others
into mentors, and mentors learn how their careers and personal satisfaction can be
enhanced.
We assist organizations in identifying their unique
mentoring needs and then, based on this assessment, design training sessions and provide
implementation support to meet those needs. Through regular evaluation, we keep our
clients informed about the progress of mentoring efforts and, at the completion of our
involvement, about the success of the program as a whole. This information provides a
measurement of the changes that take place as a result of program implementation and
demonstrates the benefits of creating a "mentor-rich environment"
for mentees, mentors and the organization. Our programs and materials are based on this
extensive ongoing field experience, as well as on academic research.
Our methods are simple, do not require extensive staff time to implement, and yet
significantly increase the effectiveness of mentor/mentee partnerships. We stress, in
contrast to conventional mentoring practice, that real mentoring is not limited only to
one-to-one meetings with an assigned mentor in a formal program. Successful mentees turn
everyone who can help them into some degree of mentor. The relationships, to succeed, is
mentee-driven and there needs to be training for both the mentor and the mentee on how to
use this powerful tool for success. Participants are consistently enthusiastic about the
mutual benefits received by both mentor and mentee. It is, in fact, this mutuality that
brings success.
