Richard A. Gross, Ed.D., has a wide range of career experiences to bring to the field of mentoring. He has served in the United States military, has worked in industry for the IBM Corporation, and has completed a 30-year career in public education. In the latter capacity he served as a role model and mentor for many individuals. As principal of Boyertown Area High School, Dr. Gross initiated a highly successful mentoring program for the faculty in which veteran teachers were paired with newly appointed staff members. Several of his assistants whom he actively mentored went on the become outstanding principals. While in Boyertown, Dr. Gross forged a partnership with Dr. Crosby, the superintendent of schools, which has continued in the work of The Uncommon Individual Foundation. Dr. Gross has done extensive consulting and mentor/mentee training in organizations, such as Dow Chemical, IBM, and Eli Lilly. Recently, he was the keynote speaker at the Black Engineer-of-the-Year Awards Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, and has consulted for youth agencies, school districts, Purdue University, Duquesne University, and The College Fund/UNCF. Dick is originally a native of Buffalo, New York, but now calls the Philadelphia area his home. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from Cornell University, and an M.B.A. in marketing from the Wharton School, and a doctorate in education from the University of Pennsylvania.
